Practical tools for public water governance
Improve Water Governance is an initiative of Humanity Solutions. We publish free, general public working aids that anyone involved in public water governance can use, including decision-makers, oversight bodies, utility staff and civic groups.
What we offer
Opaque budgets, thin oversight, unmanaged losses, ageing pipes, sewage spills and unclear allocation rules weaken public water systems. This site focuses on tangible help across the whole water cycle, from the tap to the drain:

- Calculate: the water balance and leakage index, the pipe renewal gap, the drought runway and household affordability.
- Check and record: procurement red flags, a wastewater check, budget questions, an oversight agenda, a decision log and a board briefing pack.
- Learn: research and sources, twelve case studies and a 36-term glossary.
Tools are free working aids labelled as advisory discussion starters, not certified audits or legal advice. Everything runs in your browser: there are no accounts, cookies or trackers, and your answers stay on your device.
